ERN CT Congratulates Charlene Russell-Tucker on Nomination as Education Commissioner

August 19, 2021 — Today, Governor Ned Lamont announced that he is nominating Charlene Russell-Tucker as Connecticut’s Commissioner of Education. In response, Amy Dowell, State Director of Education Reform Now CT, made the following statement:

“We congratulate Commissioner Russell-Tucker on being nominated for this important leadership position at the State Department of Education. During her tenure as Acting Commissioner, she has already demonstrated a commitment to the state’s students and to equity—leading school districts through a period of tremendous challenges associated with the pandemic, and overseeing the state’s application for federal funding through the American Rescue Plan. She has also served as an effective partner to us, as members of the Right to Read CT Coalition, while we worked with legislators to secure the passage of new legislation that will systematize a statewide response to literacy, based on the Science of Reading.

“We look forward to continued partnership with Commissioner Russell-Tucker and the Connecticut State Department of Education, particularly on issues related to high standards for every student and educational equity for all.”
