Legacy Preference is the admissions practice of giving a weighted advantage to college applicants with family members who are alumni.
It is discriminatory and perpetuates racial and socio-economic inequities.
At least 30% of CT’s 4-yr colleges use this admissions practice.
It’s time for it to end.
Updated February 2, 2024: An earlier version of the above-linked document was updated to indicate that—although 2022-23 data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System showed that both Albertus Magnus College and Wesleyan Unviersity still used legacy preference that academic year—both schools now officially report having ended the practice.
